A Day Out

Some suggestions for a day out in Tonbridge

When most people think of Tonbridge they think either of the river or the castle.
Have you ever been on a boat ride on the Medway, it's a lovely relaxing thing to do to while away an hour or two. Boats are available for hire from just below the bridge by the castle at a reasonable rate. Life jackets are available. Don't forget to take some bread to feed the ducks as you travel along a very little viewed part of the town.
When you get back, why not buy an ice cream ( depending on the time of year) and sit at the foot of the castle walls, it's a lovely sun trap and very quiet considering how close you are to the high street.
If you wander along the riverside path, round the corner you will find a small footbridge which passes over a small tributary, you then come out by the swimming pool, this is a great place to go for all ages, its very clean and heated to a lovely temperature and you can swim inside and out all year round.
Adjacent to the swimming pool is the small steam railway, run by local enthusiasts, you can take a ride with the kids around a small track - its great fun!
The park is also worth a walk around, its got everything you need to entertain the kids, swings and roundabouts and places to hide, don't forget to take the football!
Once you have worked up a thirst, why not try one of our local pubs for lunch, most welcome children and serve great value food, check out our pubs and clubs listings for more details.
And then the castle, the keep has been renovated in recent years and contains a great tourist interactive attraction telling you all about the history of the town and the castle.
